Had a great first session with the students at Middlesex University. Everyone was very excited\u00a0to be given the chance to explore an alternative narrative to the First World War during the centenary. \u00a0Our introductory session\u00a0included a passionate and informative talk by Stephen Bourne, author of\u00a0Black Poppies: Britain\u2019s Black Community and the Great War<\/em>. His family connection to his research interests, \u2013\u00a0London\u2019s forgotten black communities of the early 20th century \u2013 made his lecture\u00a0that much more personal and interesting. Here he is with the students and Middlesex University\u2019s Prof. Kurt Barling.<\/p>\n
