Everyone was very excited\u00a0to be given the chance to explore an alternative narrative to the First World War during the centenary. \u00a0Our introductory session\u00a0included a passionate and informative talk by Stephen Bourne, author of\u00a0<em>Black Poppies: Britain\u2019s Black Community and the Great War<\/em>. His family connection to his research interests, \u2013\u00a0London\u2019s forgotten black communities of the early 20th century \u2013 made his lecture\u00a0that much more personal and interesting.
