Simon Buck, Eastside Community Heritage
Had a great first session with the students at Middlesex University. Everyone was very excited to be given the chance to explore an alternative narrative to the First World War during the centenary. Our introductory session included a passionate and informative talk by Stephen Bourne, author of Black Poppies: Britain’s Black Community and the Great War. His family connection to his research interests, – London’s forgotten black communities of the early 20th century – made his lecture that much more personal and interesting. Here he is with the students and Middlesex University’s Prof. Kurt Barling.
